I'm a 72-year-old female who has had asthma for several years. Last year I was in the hospital
several times in Raton,New Mexico and put on steroids for my asthma attacks. I became
very distressed with the side effects. I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Patel.
I brought my x-rays from Raton that was taken January 15, 2009. Dr. Patel noticed a nodule in
my right lower lung, he sent me to Parkview Hospital for a Cat-scan that confirmed there was a
lesion. He then ordered a biopsy and it was revealed it was cancer. He then referred me to
Dr. Steven Bailey who did surgery and removed the lower lobe of my right lung. Dr. Louis Balizeh
was called in to keep track the cancer does not return. I have to have a x-ray every 4 months.
Dr. Balizeh said due to Dr. Patel's keen eyes the cancer was in the first stage. He also said with
Dr. Patel finding this early and having surgery I didn't need chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Dr. Patel changed all my asthma medicine and it has improved. I feel very lucky Dr. Patel takes
so much interest in his patients and gets to the bottom of their problems.

In June 2008, I started to get a stopped up nose, barely being able to blow anything out. When it loosened, bid ugly yellow stuff flew out.
This was persistent. After two more months I finally seeked primary
care physicians help, who put me on antibiotics. Still, no help. Then
came the second round of antibiotics. Still, no relief. Finally I was put
on prednisone and antibiotics. Still no relief. then I consulted a
Head, Nose, Throat specialist, who put me on augmentin and
prednisone. Nothing. The specialist wanted to do nose surgery, in which
I said no. I then went to asthma/allergy specialist. He put me on Augmentin
and prednisone. He suggested another head, neck, specialist and another
CT of the sinuses which I did not do. After all the months sick I lost 15 pounds
not being able to breathe, smell, taste, eat, and I had no energy. I also
had shortness of breath.
I asked around for help on April 13, 2009. Friends Janice Riggert and
Barbara Garcia suggested I call Dr. Patel. I called right away explaining
that I could not wait any longer and thought I might die, so the receptionist
got me in that same day at 1:00 o'clock. Dr. Patel was very interested with
my case and began treatment immediately. After 2 hours of nose spray
trying to un-plug my nose, Dr. Patel ran a scope. Inflammation, no infection.
He took me off of all antibiotics and started his own treatment. Over night
I was able to start breathing. And in only 2 short days I could smell, taste,
and eat. I love you Dr. Patel. God led me to you.
Thank you,
Evalyn Widener
" For 20 years I have struggles with extended bouts of coughing. I consulted you
and discovered that I had asthma. After using the medications you prescribed, I cough
very little and breathe so much more easily."
"Your staff is extremely supportive and competent in the care I have received.
They repeatedly explained all the use and care of the medications and inhalers.
They called me at home 24 hours after my initial visit to inquire how my first
night went."
" I appreciate the time Dr. Patel spent listening to me and the phone calls
to check on me. (I was also glad I could get my first appointment in 2 days.)

"Dr. Patel shows deep care, concern, and compassion. The "team"
approach definitely shows here."
"I came to see Dr. Patel 3-1/2 years ago. I couldn't breathe.
I coughed until I thought I was going to lose the top of my head.
I was a basket case. It wasn't long after Dr. Patel treated me
that I was feeling great. I was feeling so good that I stopped
coming to see him.
I got sick once again, and I went to see an ear, nose, and throat
doctor. He told me that I didn't have asthma..... that I still had
allergies. I was told by this other doctor that sinus surgery would
make me 80% better. I underwent the sinus surgery, which
only made me worse.
So I came back to Dr. Patel. Upon returning to Dr. Patel
and after 2 visits, I feel great again. It is now 6 months later
and I still feel great, thanks to Dr. Patel. "
Dr. Patel,
Thank you so much for being so thorough and finding my cancer.
If you hadn't been there with all of your experience, I probably would
have itched to death. I will never forget you and thank you for doing
what you do!

Dear Dr. Patel & staff:
"Our four-year-old daughter, Timmi, has been a patient of yours for
almost a year now. Last year, she was in the hospital twice. One of
these times was for Easter. Both times, they filled her with all kinds of
medications, poked her with needles, and woke her up numerous times in
the middle of the night, all of which were unnecessary. If it weren't for
your help of getting and keeping her asthma under control with just the use
of inhalers, she more than likely would have had to spend many more
unnecessary days and nights in the hospital.
We'd like to thank you for helping our baby have a happy and healthy
birthday, Christmas, and especially Easter this year--at home,
where she belongs.
The staff has been more than helpful with all the questions we've had
and we really appreciate their concern for our daughter's health. Thank
you once again."
" My daughter is seven years old. At age five, when she got a common
cold, the cold would become more severe with complicated respiratory problems. She would be hospitalized over the next two years periodically, never being diagnosed as having asthma, but being treated with a nebulizer each time. She was recommended to be checked by a professional doctor for asthma. We did. She has seen Dr. Patel only and has never been hospitalized again. My family and I thank you because my daughter can be a normal, healthy little girl.
Thanks!"

Dear Dr. Patel:
I cannot express how much it means to me that you and your staff
always manage to work me into your busy schedule. Although my
problems are minor compared to many of your patients, The problems
never seem to be minor to me at the time. Yet, I am always treated as
the most important.
You are truly a great physician and humanitarian that I greatly admire
and respect.
When I came here I was very, very, sick, and it was hard for me to
breathe. I had been in the emergency room 3 times in 2 months, so
I decided to come and see you.
After a few visits, I feel great. I want to thank you for making me feel
normal again.

Dear Dr. Patel:
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the years
of excellent care you gave my mother. A finer doctor we could not find!
You simply are the best! Thank you for your concern and honest, caring
nature and your wonderful staff. We feel very fortunate to know such
wonderful people.

Dear. Dr. Patel
I wanted to thank you for your continued care and concern for my son
and his condition. The changes our family have experienced since you
diagnosed his condition. The changes our family have experienced since
you diagnosed Conner with asthma have been tremendous. As an infant,
Conner always had trouble with colds and allergy problems exhibited in
a constant runny nose and horrible sneezing fits, which seized his whole
body. By the time he was 2, we would go through an entire bottle of
Dimetapp along with other over-the-counter medicines about every 3
weeks. By age four, we had tried every allergy medication offered by
our regular pediatrician. The medications would work for about two weeks,
and then his old symptoms would return and he would again be miserable.
I bought expensive air humidifiers, air purifiers, and dusted the house and
his room fiendishly. Nothing seemed to work.
He began to see you in mid June of 2000, and I must say, although I was
skeptical about the diagnosis you offered, I was, and am, willing to do
anything to help my son. Since June and a few medications changes,
Conner's life has changed in many ways. I had always believed he was
going through the same night problem any child would. However, since
his asthma has been addressed, he has slept through the nights like never
before. He breathes noticeably easier when I am checking him at night
and has actually slept in past 6:00 a.m., and he is resting much more easily.
He has stopped having to carry a handkerchief everywhere he goes, and out
tissue usage has hit an all-time low! He had started playing T-Ball when we
began to come to your office and was miserable in the grassy outfield at
practices and games. He could hardly make it through practices without
having to sit out and clear his nose and catch his breath. After two weeks,
there was marked improvement in his condition, and he NEVER had to leave
the field to blow his nose or catch is breath, even after running the bases
in warm ups! His condition has stabilized, and even now at age six, he has
said how much better he feels and how great it is not to have a runny
nose all the time.
